During the aftermath of China’s brutal Cultural Revolution, a secret military project sends signals into space in an attempt to establish contact with an extraterrestrial intelligence. One of these signals is received by a civilization on the brink of extinction—and now the aliens are preparing to invade Earth. When humanity learns of the impending invasion, people are divided between those willing to hand over our flawed world to a higher intelligence and those determined to resist the invasion to the very end.
